Dosing for Pediatric Bipolar I Disorder, Manic or Mixed, and Adolescent Schizophrenia

Adolescent Schizophrenia ages 13 to 171

The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) Practice Parameters recommend starting treatment with lower doses to avoid unnecessarily excessive doses and side effects.2

The following dosage is recommended for adolescent patients:

  • Initial dose: 2 mg/day*
  • Target dose: 10 mg/day
  • Maximum dose: 30 mg/day

*Titrated to 5 mg after 2 days and then to the target dose of 10 mg after 2 additional days. Subsequent dose increases should be administered in 5-mg increments.

Pediatric Bipolar I Disorder, Manic or Mixed, ages 10 to 171

For pediatric patients with Bipolar Mania, ABILIFY may be used as monotherapy or as an adjunct to lithium or valproate. The following dosage is recommended:

  • Initial dose: 2 mg/day*
  • Target dose: 10 mg/day
  • Maximum dose: 30 mg/day

*Titrated to 5 mg after 2 days and then to the target dose of 10 mg after 2 additional days. Subsequent dose increases should be administered in 5-mg increments.
