As a caregiver, you play an important role in the treatment and well-being of a person with Schizophrenia. This means you need to stay informed about your loved one’s condition, how to manage symptoms, and how to learn more about treatment options.

ABILIFY is a prescription medication for the treatment of symptoms of Schizophrenia. Studies show that ABILIFY helps manage a range of symptoms associated with Schizophrenia, which may include hearing voices, unclear thinking, having uncomfortable or disturbing thoughts, feeling confused, and lacking interest in the things previously enjoyed.

The most common side effect (reported by at least 5% of ABILIFY patients and twice as often as patients taking a sugar pill) reported by adults with Schizophrenia was an inner sense of restlessness or need to move (akathisia). The most common side effects reported by adolescents with Schizophrenia
(13 to 17 years of age) were extrapyramidal disorder (such as shakes, muscle stiffness, or other involuntary movements), feeling sleepy or tired, and tremor (shakiness).

It is important for your loved one to give his or her body time to adjust to ABILIFY and allow it to begin working to improve symptoms. The healthcare professional may decide to titrate (slowly decreasing the dose of your loved one's previous medication while increasing the dose of ABILIFY) or instruct your loved one to stop taking his or her current medication completely. If your loved one has any problems, he or she should talk to his or her healthcare professional. Make sure that your loved one does not stop taking ABILIFY without first talking to a healthcare professional.
